MANHATTAN, Kan.– The K-State women’s tennis team kicked off the weekend in Illinois on Friday (February 17) with a 4-0 loss to DePaul at the College Park Athletic Club in Chicago. This was the first game for junior Far Hat Quamar, originally from Jaipur, India, who joined the team during the semester. He started strong against the Blue Demons (2-5), along with his teammates on three other pitches, but K-State (1-7) couldn’t hold on. Quamar won her first set 6-3 against Hannah Smith in the number 3 position, but then lost her last two sets 4-6, 4-6. Freshman Rozlia Gruszczysnka lost in straight sets to Yuliya Kizelbasheva, 2-6, 4-6, in first place, along with Holy Mary, 4-6, 5-7, in position no. 6 against Greta Carbone. All three unfinished games were in favor of the sophomore Wildcats Florentine deckers she was ahead in both of her sets against second-place Eleanor Nobbs, 7-6, 4-3. Likewise in position no. 4 with seniors Rosanna Maffei against Lenka Antonijevic 6-4, 4-3. Junior Manami Ukita she competed against Valentina Martin 7-6, 4-2 in fifth place. Dekkers and Ukita recorded their first doubles win so far this season, 6-2 over third-placed Greta Carbone and Maddie Yergler. K-State will take on Northwestern (3-4) Sunday (February 19) at 12:00 CT at Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Illinois.
