Obituary: Diana Lynn Taylor (Lewis) (02/17/23)

Diana Lynn Taylor (Lewis) passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2023 with her son Scott and daughter Kim by her side. Diana was born on May 20, 1949 in Eureka, Kan., to parents Wilbur and Esther Lewis. She graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1967 as valedictorian. After high school she attended Wichita State University and began working in the US Post Office at the main GMF in Wichita, Kan., where she met her future husband, Charles Taylor. They were married on February 14, 1971 at Bethany Methodist Church in Wichita, Kan. It was a day before their 52nd wedding anniversary. She was the proud mother of daughter Kim, born in 1972, and son Scott, born in 1979. She took time out from the Post Office for several years to be home with the children and was also her granddaughter’s caretaker Briann and her nephew Michael, both of whom were born weeks apart from Scott. She always referred to the trio as her triplets. After a break from work, Diana returned to the post office in Andover, Kan., where she worked as a clerk until her retirement in July of 2004. After her retirement from the post office, she worked in the Adventure RV rental department and then in the transportation department with Cargill in Wichita. She holds a BA in history from Wichita State University, earned in 1986. She had a special interest in the American Civil War.

Over the years she has been active in politics, serving in James Litsey’s campaign for Congress against Dan Glickman in 1978. She was also active for several years in Girl Scouts and later Boy Scouts. She served as the fundraising coordinator for Two Rivers Youth Club Girls Softball for several years. Diana was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan and died hours after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory. She was also an avid fan of Wichita State Baseball. Her other hobbies included baking cookies for Christmas and traveling. She was an avid dog lover.

Diana is preceded by her death by her parents, Wilbur and Esther Lewis, as well as her husband Charles and beloved dogs Gidget, Snickers, Taz and Izzy (Isabella).

She is survived by daughter Kim (Wichita) and son Scott (Valley Center) and grandparents Lexi, Ace and Chloe. She is also survived by sisters Connie Jensen (Mark), Rebecca Klungreseter (Karl) and Shari Lewis and Godson (niece) Andy Jensen, as well as many cousins, nieces and great-nieces.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Resthaven Morgue (11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita, KS). A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Diana Taylor Memorial Fund, which will go to a pavilion development project at the Two Rivers Youth Club girls’ softball complex in Wichita, Kan.
