TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A person was rushed to a local hospital after a pair of pickup trucks collided early Thursday at a major intersection in southeast Topeka.
The collision was reported around 8 a.m. at SE 45th and Adams.
The Shawnee County Sheriff told 13 NEWS on the spot that the crash occurred when a black Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that was heading east on SE 45th was preparing to make a left — or northbound — turn on SE Adams when it collided with a silver Ford F-150 pickup truck heading west on SE 45th St.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck told sheriff’s deputies the sun obscured her vision shortly before the collision, officials said.
After the impact, the Ford pickup truck spun approximately 180 degrees and came to rest facing east in the westbound lanes of SE 45th just west of SE Adams. The Ford pickup sustained substantial damage to the driver’s side door area.
The Chevrolet pickup truck, which had severe front end damage, stopped in the westbound lanes of NW-facing SE 45th.
The driver of the Ford pickup truck was transported by American Medical Response ambulance to a local hospital with injuries not thought to be life threatening, officials said.
Westbound traffic on SE 45th was disrupted for about an hour as crews drove to the scene.
