Betty Jean Clement Allen | Iredell Free News

Betty Jean Clement AllenAged 93, she died peacefully at home in Mooresville, NC on Sunday, February 12, 2023. She was lovingly cared for by a team of amazing healthcare workers and most recently by Iredell County Hospice & Palliative Care.

Betty, the eldest of five children, was born in Shamrock, Oklahoma to Troy and Effie Clement. Her family lived in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Kansas. She graduated from Russell High School in 1947. On January 2, 1948, she met Robert “Bud” Allen and they were married eight days later on January 10 in Russell, Kan. They had been married for 66 years and had three children: Denise, Marcia and Roberto. Also, they have been foster parents for 10 years.

Betty and Bud moved to Great Bend, Kan., in 1956. At age 44, Betty earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Sterling College and taught fourth grade for eight years. She also enjoyed planning family vacations in the US, reunions, parties, and traveling with Bud on business trips. Betty was active at First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend and she loved to sing in the choir and taught for 50 years at Girls Auxiliary and Adult Women’s Sunday School.

In 2012, Betty and Bud moved to Mooresville, NC to be close to Denise and family, where they were members of Peninsula Baptist Church.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud; two children, Marcia Kimbley and Robert “Bob” Allen; her brothers, Bill Clement, Wanda Clement Snell, Carl Clement and Darrell Clement; and two grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Denise Simon, and son-in-law, David; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Sarah Simon; sister-in-law, Sigrid Clement; and her nephews and nieces.

Private celebrations will be held in Mooresville, NC, and Great Bend, Kan.
