Easton Man accused of using 911 services under false pretenses in Hartford: cops

HARTFORD, CT – A 31-year-old Easton man charged last month with breaking into state police vehicles in Hartford has been charged again, this time with illegal use of the 911 system and breaking and entering on state police grounds.

Connecticut State Police said Wednesday that Arash Kani, 31, of Easton, was charged with first-degree felony trespassing and misuse of a 911 emergency system.

Kani was held on $25,000 bond and transported to Hartford Superior Court for arraignment on Wednesday, February 1.

According to the Connecticut State Police, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, a person identified as Kani began calling 9-1-1 “on a non-urgent matter.”

Police said Kani used the 9-1-1 system about 10 times from 3:45 to 4 on Wednesday and was “advised that 9-1-1 was to report emergency matters.”

Then, police said, Kani showed up at H Troop headquarters in Hartford to initiate a freedom of information request.

Police said Kani was advised that FOI requests are not processed at State Police troop posts and given the information to submit the request to State Police Headquarters in Middletown, before leaving the ‘area.

At around 7:20 am, police said H Troop personnel observed that Kani had entered a parking lot located at the rear of the H Troop building, where State Police vehicles are parked.

The lot is clearly marked with signs indicating no trespassing and, according to police, it looked like they were taking pictures.

State police said Kani is currently on bail for a Dec. 27, 2022 arrest, after police said he attempted to gain access to state police K-9s by breaking into multiple K-9 state trooper vehicles. state police parked on property.

Kani was taken into custody, tried at Troop H.
