Emporia boys swim takes fourth place in Topeka West | gas

The Emporia High School boys’ swim team finished fourth in the Topeka West Invitational on Wednesday.

Logan Woydziak finished third in the 100m free with a time of 54.53 earning himself a state consideration time. He was also fourth in the 200 medley with a time of 2:17.23. Dawson is thrilled with how the season is turning out.

“Logan is swimming with the lights off right now and things are really looking good for him,” Dawson said. “He Tonight, he lost two seconds in the 100 free and gained reflection time. He’s close to a time for the car and we’ll be working on that for the next few meetings we have left to try and get him to the state meet at some events.

Ian Navarro finished third in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:17.23, while Will Walker finished fourth in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:05.98.

The Spartans have had a pair of relays that finish in the top five: the 400m free relay of Woydziak, Navarro, Walker, and Tyler Luthi finished fourth in 3:52.19, and the 200m free relay of Luthi, Navarro, Shane Anderson, and Broden Podrebarac finished fifth at 1:47.21.

Dawson noted that he’s seen a lot of growth from this group, particularly in the last couple of weeks or so.

“This group has so much untapped potential,” Dawson said. “There were difficult days we had in training trying to make them understand that they are much better than they think they are. But I think in the last 10-14 days they’ve started to realize the little things that we keep pressing and the sets are there basically building these things and hopefully they pay off.

The swimmers will be back in action on Saturday in Maize, with the divers on Friday.
