Everblade Barbecue Kansas City 4-1

ABROAD, Florida — Fueled by two first-period goals by Oliver Chau and more than 55 minutes of goaltending by Cam Johnson, the Florida Everblades cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Kansas City Mavericks in front of 6,481 fans Friday night at a Hertz Arena electric.

The Everblades came out firing on all cylinders, racking up three goals in the opening period as they outscored the Mavericks 18-8. Chau scored twice at 9:10 and 17:40, while Cam Darcy cashed in at 15:55. With his 12th and 13th goals of the year, Chau scored for the second consecutive game and extended his scoring streak to five consecutive games. Chau’s second goal was his first power-play haul this year, while Darcy scored his tenth goal of the season.

Brad Morrison continued the onslaught with his 10th goal in just 21 games, extending the Blades’ lead to 4-0 at 9:49 of the second frame.

Kansas City’s Theo Calvas blew Johnson’s bid for a fourth shutout with the Mavericks’ only goal of the game at 3:37 into the third period. Florida beat Kansas City 37-27 and the victorious Johnson (21-8-4-3) recorded 26 saves, increasing his ECHL save total to 1,034.

Six different Everblades have recorded assists in the contest, led by Xavier Cormier and Lukas Kälble, both with a pair of first period assists. Joe Pendenza also recorded a first period assist, bringing his current scoring streak to nine games, one of the longest of the Everblades season. In those nine games, Pendenza has 14 points on six goals and eight assists.

In addition to scoring a power-play goal in the opening period, the Everblades hindered Kansas City in all six of their power-play chances.

With the win, the Blades improved to 13-0-0-0 scoring first at home and are now 4-0-1-1 all-time against the Mavericks.

The Everblades will be participating in the three-game series on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. and fans in attendance are invited to join the Marvel Universe. Team members will be dressed up as superheroes, wearing special jerseys for the game! Marvel-themed interlude games and activities as we take on the Kansas City Mavericks. There is a complimentary Marvel poster for the first 2,000 fans and we will also have live music for our Saturday Tailgate party from 5-7pm!
