On Thursday, Feb. 16, the State Senate voted 30-8 to pass Senate Bill 116, a bill that expands access and standardizes firearm safety education for schools. Please use the link below to contact your representative and solicit them to support Senate Bill 116.

House Bill 2304, the House companion bill to SB 116, was sent to the House Federal and State Affairs Committee. The scheduled hearing for HB 2304 is Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 9:00 am and will be held at 300 SW 10th St., Topeka, Kansas 66612, Room 346-S. Please participate and show your support for firearm safety education. If you are unable to attend, use the link below to contact committee members and ask them to support HB 2304.

This important legislation educates children, promotes safety to help reduce the risk of accidents, and raises awareness among students about firearm safety. Senate Bill 116 and House Bill 2304 establish guidelines for school programs appropriate for teaching firearms safety to students of all ages. It is based on the NRA’s Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism’s current Hunter Education In Our Schools.

Firearm safety education helps promote responsible gun ownership by teaching students to be aware of the potential dangers of firearms. Learning about firearms and safety can reduce fear and misunderstanding among students.

Again, contact your rep and ask them to SUPPORT SB 116 and HB 2304! So please share this notice with your family and friends and encourage them to do the same.
