Irving Gail Tournear 1943 – 2023

LARNED – Irving Gail Tournear, 79, passed away on February 18, 2023 at his home in Larned.

He was born on December 13, 1943 in Great Bend, the son of Irving G. and Mildred J. Asher Tournear.

A lifelong resident of Great Bend, he was a firefighter for the Great Bend Fire Department until his retirement in 1985. He later moved to Larned where he was a member of the Larned Chamber of Commerce, he was also a member of the Great Bend American Legion and the Santa Rosa School Board.

Survivors include two sons, Derek M. (Jaine) Tournear, Nokesvilles, Virginia; Jonathan Joseph (Kelly) Ware, Olathe; three brothers, Larry G. Tournear, Gary L. Tournear, Ron D. Tournear; nine grandchildren, Caitlin, Seth, Spence, Savannah, Dakota, Weston, Xavier, Paxton, John and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James “Jimmy” Lee Tournear; and a daughter, Gail Renee Tournear.

The memorial service will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, Kan., presided over by the Rev. Tim Bever. Visiting will be 9am – 8pm Monday 27 February 2023 at Beckwith Mortuary Larned with family in attendance 4pm – 6pm Burial in Lyon Cemetery with military rites on grave.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be delivered to American Legion Post 180 by Beckwith Mortuary, PO Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550. Personal condolences may be left at www.beckwithmortuary.com.
