Kansas cops set record for who has right-of-way when vehicle enters highway

Wichita Police Department (WPD) went viral with a Facebook post about driver responsibilities when entering a highway or interstate.

On January 19, WPD shared a Facebook post from the agency’s official page reminding drivers that vehicles already on the roadway are not required to move to allow other vehicles to merge.

Traffic Tip of the Day: While the blue car is certainly a courteous ride if it can do so safely, the red car should adjust to traffic and merge when possible.“, the WPD said in a statement.

The WPD post was liked by over 43,000 Facebook users.

“You are nice when you let someone in, but you are not required by law to do so. Merging traffic has a sign of profitability for a reason. And if there is no sign, they are legally required to give way until there is a place for a safe merger, ”said one of the commentators.

“Adapting to traffic” does NOT mean staying at 45° and trying to merge into it, nor does it mean coming to a complete stop at the bottom of the ramp,” said another.

“Thank you for these PSAs. I’m not sure that people understand the rules of the road more. I hope this helps,” said the commenter.

“At the end of the day, red’s job is to blend in, but that doesn’t mean blue can’t be polite and make room whenever possible,” concluded another person.
