In a one-game make-up game postponed originally scheduled for December 21, South Dakota State entered Kansas City and snapped the Roos’ longest hitting streak of the season.

Behind Lawrence, Kansas native Zeke Mayo’s 24 points South Dakota State (12-11, 7-4 Summit League) held off Kansas City (10-14, 6-5) 67-66 at the Swinney Center.

Mayo knocked down four three-pointers and drained two free throws in the final seconds to put the Jackrabbits ahead by one point. SDSU led for most of the game, but a rushing run early in the second half gave Kansas City the lead for the first time with 11 minutes left.

The teams traded leads eight times in the final minutes. but Shemarri Allen’s sweater didn’t fit over time and the Jackrabbits held on. Allen finished with 23 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Allen also hit a three-point shot to make the score 66–65 with just over 35 seconds left.

RayQuawndis Mitchell added 17 points for Kansas City, with the Roos’ other three starters combining for just nine points.

The two teams were scheduled to play on December 21 before a winter storm derailed those plans. Kansas City will be back on the field Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at home against Oral Roberts, who improved to 20-4 (11-0 Summit League) on Monday.
