LAST. RANDY. AT RIGHT, LAURA AND KELLY, OFFICER JAMES MAULE. BAUER, HIS K-9 PARTNER, CHAMP, AND ALSO A YET TO BE IDENTIFIED PEDESTRIAN WERE KILLED BY A DRIVER LAST NIGHT. TAKE A LOOK BEHIND ME AND SEE THERE IS A COMPLIMENTARY POLICE CAR PARKED HERE, EVEN RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FALLEN OFFICERS MEMORIAL. THIS FATAL ACCIDENT OCCURRED NEAR THE CORNER OF TRUMAN AND BENTON AT APPROXIMATELY 10:15 AM LAST NIGHT. THE POLICE ARE TRYING TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE DRIVER WAS DISTURBED AT THE TIME. AN EMPLOYEE AT AN AUTO BODY SHOP CALLED THE REAL DEAL TELL US THAT POLICE OFFICERS TOOK THE COMPANY’S VIDEO SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM TO SEE IF THERE COULD BE VIDEO SHOWING WHAT HAPPENED. THE MARLBORO OFFICER WAS A 20-YEAR DEPARTMENT VETERAN. HE WAS ALSO A CHAMPION HUSBAND AND FATHER. THE K-9 OFFICER LIVED WITH HIM AND HIS FAMILY. THEY PUT THEMSELVES IN DANGER. THEY WERE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES. THE CITY NEEDS IT AND IN AN INSTANT WE LOST THEM. OUR DEPARTMENT HURTS. WE ARE SAD AND WE ARE SHOCKED. AND AT THE LAST CHECK, THE DRIVER IS STILL IN DEPOSIT. COMING IN AT 5AM WE WILL HEAR JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY JEAN PETERS BAKER REPORTING LIVE OUT OF KPD HEADQUARTERS.

The Kansas City Fraternal Order of Police has created a site to help the family of fallen officer James Muhlbauer. Muhlbauer, his K9 partner and a pedestrian were killed after a car crashed into the officer’s vehicle. KCFOP Lodge 99 has created an online donation site to help the family. All donations will go directly to support the family. You can also donate to a Meal Train account. Muhlbauer was a 20-year veteran of the Kansas City Police Department. “Please pray for the Muhlbauer family,” said Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves. “They need strength and love, and this department, while suffering, will give them both.”
