NWS storm identification, safety presentations begin in February

While there is still snow on the ground, National Weather Service forecasters are preparing for the upcoming storm season.

Among their preparations is scheduling storm identification and safety presentations to help prepare storm watchers and weather enthusiasts for the upcoming storm season.

“Our staff will provide an in-depth weather presentation that will engage the audience by teaching them about different types of storms, characteristics of individual storms that help a person recognize the potential severity of storms, how to report dangerous weather conditions, and severe weather safety,” he noted the NWS team on the NWS-Wichita website.

In-person presentations are scheduled throughout the area, starting in February, and are open to the public.

NWS-Wichita’s Storm Fury on the Plains presentations in our area include the following.

March 16 – Marion County6:30 p.m., Shari Flaming Center for the Arts at Tabor College in Hillsboro

March 20 – Ellsworth County6:30 PM, PAC Ellsworth High School Auditorium

March 29 – County of Saline6:30 pm, Fitzpatrick Auditorium, Sams Hall of Fine Arts at Kansas Wesleyan University

March 30 – McPherson County6:30pm, McPherson Opera House

Storm identification and safety presentations in area counties outside the NWS-Wichita coverage area include the following.

March 14 – Jewell County6:30 pm, Mankato Community Center

March 21 – Mitchell County6:30 PM, North Central Kansas Technical College Student Union in Beloit

March 28 – Ottawa County7:00 p.m., Ottawa County Courthouse basement

April 4 – Lincoln County6:30 p.m., Lincoln High School Commons
