Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten enrollment starts on February 10, 2023

Soon, it will be time for more students Mateo’s age to join the Shawnee Mission School District! The application process for Preschool and Kindergarten students opens February 10, 2023. Online enrollment for Preschool and Kindergarten opens at 8am on February 10, 2023. Click here for the application links , which will be available on February 10 .

This online entry:

  • It allows families to fill out the application form for Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten
  • It helps ensure a student’s placement within the Pre-K program, which has a limited number of slots. (Note: All necessary documentation must be submitted before membership is considered complete.)
  • Enables the district to begin planning a warm welcome for the first incoming students of the district’s schools

Information about launching Pre-K in the SMSD

To enroll in kindergarten, children must be four years old by August 31, 2023 (but ineligible for kindergarten). Preschool is a huge opportunity for all four-year-olds, said Nieman teacher Amber Pagan.

“Pre-Kindergarten is a great place for us to start preparing and preparing students for Kindergarten and help enrich what they already know,” she added. “I am so proud of the growth these students make socially, emotionally and academically.”

Pre-Kindergarten is a half day program at Shawnee Mission. Paid and no-charge options will be offered in the 2023-2024 school year. Sessions are held from 8:10 to 10:55 and from 12:25 to 15:10

Preschool provides a strong foundation for future learning for all students, according to East Antioch Preschool teacher Georgia Klos.

“Students are able to develop their skills and this helps them in first grade, fifth grade and throughout high school. It begins in these early years”.

A child must be five years old by August 31, 2023 to enroll in kindergarten, according to state law.

SMSD offers a free full day kindergarten to all students. The elementary school day runs from 8:10 to 15:10
