Review of Mort’s Martini and Cigar Bar

A rite of passage for any 21+ year old in Wichita is to spend at least one night at the Mort’s Martini and Cigar Bar. Whether it’s hanging out on their patio, grabbing a half-price martinis on Mondays, eating some delicious popcorn, or listening to live music, it’s definitely a go-to bar that’s been here for 25 years.

We had part of the afternoon free and decided to drop by Mort’s as it’s been some time since our last visit. It’s been a while, so I had no idea they transformed their patio to be more accessible any time of the year. Whether it’s fans in the summer or heaters in the winter, their patio, which overlooks 1st Street, is a great hangout whenever they’re open. Towards the end of our time there, they had live acoustic music.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the jalapeno popcorn. It’s one of my two favorite popcorns in all of Wichita (the other being the pickled popcorn at The Popcorner). This complimentary jalapeno popcorn offers a nice bit of heat that pairs well with any drink. Plus it makes you want to drink more, brilliant.

The drinks menu offers so much to choose from. I honestly don’t know if there are more martinis to choose from at Mort’s or more dishes on the Cheesecake Factory menu. Even more impressive is the servers knowledge of martinis. Our particular server could tell us what each martini consisted of. I was amazed, because I can’t even remember what I had for dinner the day before.

With so many drinks, there’s something on the menu for everyone. One of my favorite cocktails is the bloody mary at Mort’s. It’s simple but delicious. Give me that and some jalapeno popcorn and I’m in heaven.

If you love a good watering hole and you’ve never been to Mort’s, you’re doing yourself an injustice.
