Tacos El Sol Revisited: One of our favorite burritos and tacos in Wichita

I have a rotation of restaurants and food trucks that I try to frequent as much as possible. It doesn’t matter if I have to cross the city or the time of night. I believe in consistently supporting places you truly love and Tacos El Sol he is one of them. The food truck is parked on 31st and Meridian, at the same intersection as Davis Liquor.

Tacos El Sol, also known as El Sol de Michoacan Tacos Performance as listed on their Facebook page, specializes in tacos, tortas, burritos, ceviche and more. Meats include asada, al pastor, carnitas, buche, pollo, barbacoa, cabeza, and lengua.

The first time we ever stopped by Tacos El Sol, we were hooked. It’s one of those moments where you knew you’d always be a customer after the first bite.

I was in southwest Wichita on a Friday night and decided to drop by.

To kick things off, I ordered the Smothered Green Chili Pork Burrito. In a city filled with burrito options, this is hands down my favorite burrito of the bunch. You have to make sure it’s choked. The green chile sauce is packed with flavor and isn’t too spicy, so it’s great for anyone. At $8.00, it’s filling to the max and will satisfy appetites of all sizes. Next time I’ll weigh it, because I’m sure it weighs as much as my daughter.

And every visit to Tacos El Sol has to include the tacos. Their al pastor tacos are Megan’s favorite in all of Wichita. So much so that if we’re having an argument, all I have to do is go get a few of their al pastor tacos and it’s like nothing happened. Tacos are the way to anyone’s heart; be sure to follow me for more relationship advice.

I love all of their tacos, but mostly stick to the buche, cabeza, and lengua.

And when you talk about locally family-owned places around town, this is truly a family affair. Some nights you will find three generations of the same family inside, all working together. It’s a real team effort with nothing but love, and it’s wonderful.
