The identity of the Illinois man killed in Rockton Van Crash has been revealed

A man was killed early Tuesday morning (2/21) after the van he was driving apparently hit a tree on North Rockton Road.

According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office press release, the incident was reported by someone walking through the area around 5 am Tuesday before deputies responded to the 11300 block of N. Rockton Road.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, they immediately discovered a white van that had crashed into a tree and a deceased male inside the vehicle. The man who was killed in the crash was the sole occupant, according to the press release.

After an autopsy by the Winnebago County coroner, the man was identified as 39-year-old Matthew Brown of Rockton, Illinois.

Preliminary autopsy results revealed that Mr. Brown died of blunt force trauma to the head from an automobile accident. —Jennifer P. Muraski, Winnebago Co. coroner

An investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is ongoing by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
