Topeka woman arrested in connection with escape and prison break on I-70

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) – A Topeka woman was arrested late Thursday morning by Geary County authorities in connection with an escape and evasion by officers on Interstate 70 in Wabaunsee County, authorities said.

The accident was reported at 11:31 am Thursday on Interstate 70, approximately three miles west of the McFarland exit. The location was approximately 25 miles east of Junction City.

The arrested woman was identified as Destynee L. Thomas, 27, of Topeka.

According to the JC Post, the crash began at 11:18 a.m. about 10 miles east of Junction City when a white SUV nearly hit the Geary County Sheriff’s Patrol Car that was at the scene of the crash. on I-70 eastbound.

A Geary County Sheriff’s Deputy who was inside the patrol car that was nearly hit pulled out behind the SUV, attempting to stop traffic for failure to move an emergency vehicle, reports the JC Post .

The SUV initially slowed down, the JC Post says, but quickly returned to the speed limit, failing to pull over for a sheriff’s deputy.

Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troops helped stop the vehicle about 14 miles east of where the accident began, according to the JC Post.

Geary County Sheriff’s officials said Thomas was arrested in connection with the absconding and escape, along with failure to surrender to an emergency vehicle.
