WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) – The Wichita Southeast Golden Buffaloes advanced to the championship game of the 28th Mid-America Classic Women’s Basketball Tournament following a 43-34 victory over the Clearwater Indians.
Clearwater led early after Elizabeth Tjaden scored the first points with a layup. Southeast’s Aniyah Harris hit three straight threes to give the Golden Buffaloes a 6-2 lead.
Clearwater allowed 14 points in the first quarter. Their defense came alive in the second quarter, allowing Southeast just two points. At halftime they took a 17-16 lead into the locker room.
The Golden Buffaloes showed up in the third quarter. They scored 19 points and gave up just nine to Clearwater. Both teams would each score eight points in the final quarter. Clearwater’s Elizabeth Tjaden led all scorers with 19 points, including seven field goals, one three-pointer and four-of-four from the free throw line.
Ma’khiya Jones led Wichita Southeast in scoring with 15 points. He made five field goals and five of six free throws. Aniyah Harris hit 14 points on three-pointers and three-of-three from the free throw line. South East take on St. James Academy for the tournament championship tomorrow night.
