Doris Babich

February 1, 1924 – February 15, 2023

Doris L. Babich, age 99, Overland Park, KS passed away on February 15, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS. The visit will take place on the same day from 13:00 to 14:00. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.

Doris was born February 1, 1924 in Lancaster, NE to Clinton and Lena Muse. Doris served in the military with Naval Reserve WAVES as a communications technician 3rd class in the District of Columbia between 1944 and 1946.

Doris, the perennial adventurer, lived a forward-thinking life full of enthusiasm, zeal, love and laughter. She has paddled the white water rapids of the Colorado River, swam in the warm blue Caribbean waters of St Thomas and explored the last frontier of Alaska’s rugged coastline. She was always up for an adventure. Once, during a trip to Vegas to see Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, she was even mistaken for Neil Young’s mother.

Helping those less fortunate in life has always been one of her passions. Throughout her life, she has raised many pets, bringing them warmth, security, and adoration. Additionally, she has advocated for women’s rights, environmental improvement, and social justice. Doris has remained actively engaged throughout her life.

Entering the Navy at the age of 20, during World War II, was the highlight of his life. The new founding of an all-female service corps offered her camaraderie, new friendship, a deeper love of country, and an overwhelming sense of pride. Doris’s face always lit up with joy when she remembered her stories from her years of service in Washington DC. She truly was “The Greatest Generation” incarnate.

She made lifelong friends and when she outlived many, her children’s friends accepted her into their group activities. She has accepted everyone as she is, always focusing on the positive in each individual. She was witty and loved to laugh. Her kindness was constant and never wavered.

Doris is survived by daughters Elaine Doran, Diane (Jim) Wilson, Rosemarie Babich, Carol (Chris) Armacost, grandchildren: Chuck Neeland IV, Jason (Debra) Babich; great-grandchildren: Cooper & Tucker Babich. Doris was preceded in her death by her husband Michael, daughters Christine and Ruth, son Michael Jr. and son-in-law David Doran. stay.

Doris was equally devoted to all members of her family. She was the best mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law and friend anyone could ask for. She will be missed forever.
