Fasting and Praying: 6 Powerful Prayers to Say While Fasting

“The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him. So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayers”. This says a lot about the need for prayers in our daily life. We all do things that put us in a situation where we forsake God, knowingly or unknowingly. However, if we go to him, with fasting and prayers. He will answer our prayers. Below are some powerful prayers to say while fasting:

Let Him Know You’re Here With Your Heart Wide Open

This is one powerful prayer to say, especially when starting your fasting. You need to let him know how remorseful you are, how you’re here at his feet with all your heart wide open for him, and how you are waiting and hoping for his powerful hands upon your life. You could say

Oh, Lord! I enter into this sanctuary or fasting with a broken heart. Here I am, at the foot of your cross.

I know you love me, as I could feel the love of your heartbeat. Thank you for the grace to breathe. Thank you for my life. Here are my hands, Lord guide, and lead me. I’m waiting, hoping, watching, and listening for your powerful hands in my life, Oh Lord!  I’m here with all my heart wide open.

Prayer For Seeking God’s Understanding And Wisdom

It takes God’s wisdom and understanding, even to know the prayers to pray at any moment.  He’s the omnipotent and omniscient God. The only true living God. So, you need to ask for his understanding and wisdom during a period of fasting and prayer.  You could say

Dear Father,

All praise, glory, honor, and adoration be to you, the only one and true living God.

For you are the revealer of all mysteries and the source of all wisdom and understanding. Thank you for knowledge, thank you for understanding, thank you for throwing light into where darkness enshrouds.  Lord, we pray for wisdom and understanding to further understand your words so that we can live according to them.

In Jesus name

Amen

Prayer to Say Before Eating While Fasting

This is a prayer you say while after a period of fasting while breaking your fast. You could say

Lord!  Bless this food that I’m about to eat now. Provide for those who don’t have anything to eat right now. For I have fasted, I know you have poured new refreshment, peace, and passion into my heart.

Please help to keep hold of this new treasure in my heart so that I won’t trespass. Lord, remind me each day to not follow worldly things and taking comfort of food.  Thank you for this food and drink. Amen.

Prayer to Resist Temptation

Temptations are an inevitable part of human life. It’s sure to happen, and nobody is above it. Even Jesus wasn’t above it. However, he overcame it.  Jesus, being tempted, gave us the best example of how to overcome temptation.

Looking at the book of Matthew, chapter 4 – verses 1,2. It says, “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry.” Satan then tempted him with food. But he answered, ‘It is written; “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:3-4).

This is why you need to pray and ask God for the power to resist temptation. Ask him to lead you in the path of righteousness. Ask for his help to walk in his obedience, because it is only through it that we can live and flourish and extend our days.

Prayer For Mercy

We all know the story of King Ahab, who behaved in the vilest manner and did all sorts of evil things. But when Prophet Elijah delivered God’s message to him, of his anger and calamity to come. He tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, fasted, knelt, and prayed to God. He humbled himself and asked for mercy profusely. God heard his prayer and showered him mercy.

Even the most wretched of sinners can move the heart of God to receive mercy, by humbling themselves through fasting. This is why you need to humble yourself while fasting and praying, ask for God to shower his mercy upon you. For it is through His mercy that we can do all things.

Prayer to Move Mountains

Ask, and it shall be given unto you. Knock, and they shall be opened for you.  Don’t be afraid to ask God to do the impossible for you. For he can do it. He’s a big God, and nothing is too hard or too big for him to do. Isaiah 59:1 says, “Listen! The LORD’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call”.

Also, Jesus taught, saying, “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” (Matthew 17:20). So, while fasting, pray for him to do the impossible in your life.

There you have it! Above are some powerful prayers to say while fasting. His arm is not too weak to save us, so is his ear, which isn’t too deaf to hear our calls and prayers. We just need to humble ourselves, ask for mercy, and pray unto him.
