Kansas Celebrates 150 Years With ‘Home on the Range’ Campaign | Lifestyle

TOPEKA, Kan. – Kansas celebrates its 150th birthday with new “Home on the Range” campaign.

To commemorate the day, Kansas Tourism released a video paying tribute to the poem-turned-song, Home on the Range, originally written 150 years ago near Athol. The lyrics of the world famous tune echo the aspirations, values and essence of Kansan past and present.

The Kansas Day video, set to the famous song, highlights the uniqueness of Kansas. From scenic prairies and big night skies to urban delights and vibrant moments, the video shows how lyrics written many moons ago still ring true today.

“Home on the Range has been memorized and sung by generations of Kansans,” said Lieutenant Governor and Commerce Secretary David Toland. “The genuine passion these homegrown recording artists bring to our state song should fill you with pride to come from the Sunflower State.” Kansas Tourism is continuing the birthday bash all next week and asking fellow Kansasers to join in the fun.

“There’s so much to celebrate about Kansas that we’ve decided to make it a week-long commemoration,” said Bridgette Jobe, director of Kansas tourism. “This year, we’re continuing the festivities to show our love and state pride beyond January 29. We invite all Kansans and those who love Kansas to join our celebration.”
