It’s funny how some say referees shouldn’t decide a game and then not make the defensive hold call they did at the end of the Super Bowl and also yelled at NBA referees for not calling a foul for LeBron James late in the recent Lakers loss to the Celtics. We can’t have it both ways, folks.

Regardless of where future Super Bowls are played, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, or whoever the commissioner is, should make sure the playing field is fit for play. Both teams had to change their studs to improve their footing. As great as the game was, he knows how it would have turned out if both teams had been able to execute their plays without slipping and sliding.

Lost between the controversial officiating and the electrifying revelation of the halftime pregnancy is Chiefs journeyman running back Jerick McKinnon, who could have boasted about scoring a Super Bowl game-winning touchdown for the rest of his life. I’m sure he’s dreamed of such a moment, but chances are he’ll never get another chance. But in the final seconds with the score tied, he chose to sacrifice personal glory by going below the goal line, thus putting his team in the best position to win.
