PRESS RELEASE – Search warrant and arrest for burglary

PITTSBURG, KANSAS – At approximately 2:05 pm Monday afternoon, February 13, 2023, law enforcement officers from the Pittsburg Police Department were dispatched to Harris Heating & Air, located at 1403 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, Kansas, in reference to a burglary and theft report from the company. On the previous evening (Sunday, February 12, 2023), the suspects had illegally entered a company-owned container and stolen several items, including scrap air conditioners and a large quantity of copper pipes, officers said. , valued at over $2,000.00.

While pursuing information regarding possible suspects, officers and investigators located some of the stolen items at a residence on the 800 block of E. 9th St., Pittsburg, Wednesday afternoon, February 15, 2023. When officers initially arrived at the scene, two suspects fled into the residence and refused to come out. A search warrant was obtained for the residence, which was served at approximately 4:50pm.

During the search of the residence, evidence and items of stolen property from the aforementioned corporate burglary at Harris Heating & Air were located and recovered. In addition, evidence and stolen property from another burglary at a Pittsburg business were located and recovered. This other business theft was the theft of a large quantity of copper wire from an AT&T storage site in the 400 block of N. Smith St. This additional business theft was reported to the police on Wednesday morning, February 15, 2023.

Additionally, while at the residence, officers located and recovered a stolen 2017 Chevy Sonic sedan, which had previously been reported to the Pittsburg Police Department on January 10, 2023.

During the search, the two aforementioned suspects who fled the residence when officers arrived, 30-year-old Mackenzie E. Jenkins, of Pittsburg, and 30-year-old Heather L. Williams, also of Pittsburg, were located inside the home and they were taken into custody without incident.

Mr. Jenkins was arrested on felony counts of burglary to a non-home, felony theft, felony possession of stolen property, and felony misdemeanor. Ms. Williams was also arrested on felony counts of burglary to a non-home, felony theft, felony possession of stolen property, and felony misdemeanor. Both Mr. Jenkins and Ms. Williams were transported to the jail at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office for booking, where they are both currently being held without bail.
