The Wichita roofer’s van was stolen from the construction site in broad daylight

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) — A Wichita roofing company and a homeowner are reaching out to the public, hoping to find a truck stolen from one of its employees. Someone stole the work truck about 10 a.m. Wednesday from a construction site in a north Riverside neighborhood.

In the truck were tools and project materials. The burglary took place outside Kathy Harkness’ home near Perry and Woodrow Courts. The brown 2002 Ford F-250 with a ladder rack had a Kansas sticker: 704-JTR. Anyone who sees the truck or knows where it might be can call the police or tip anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

“This is a really nice neighborhood and I think it surprised me because it was 10 in the morning and there were people on the roof and there were people driving up and down the street in broad daylight, just broad daylight.” Harkness said.

The Rhoden Roofing roofers had just arrived at the Harkness home Wednesday morning when someone drove off in a worker’s truck. Rhoden was hired to repair Harkness’s chimney and roof.

“It’s really disheartening because people work very hard for what they have. Whether they hoard tools for any length of time or their truck, they take pride in those things,” said John Rhoden, owner of Rhoden Roofing. “To be robbed of so much, it’s really sad. where we are.”

Rhoden wants to help his longtime employee find his truck, tools and supercharger.

“He’s honest, he always does his job,” Rhoden said of the employee. “All the core values that we have here, we modeled it when we did it. When something bad happens to a really good person, it stings him a little more.

Harkness echoed a similar message.

“A really good family man, who works hard to support his family,” he said. “I want to see someone who does things right, someone who works and makes a living and works hard to do things right get justice.”
