The Ultimate Proposal Guide

Are you planning to pop the question? If so, you might be looking for some ideas on how to create the perfect proposal. Check out our ultimate proposal guide for some suggestions on how to create a memorable proposal.

The Ring

It’s important to choose an engagement ring you know she (or he) will love. This means finding out her ring preferences ahead of time.

Some women love big engagement rings, while others prefer dainty rings. Some women love halo settings, while others love solitaires. Some women love white gold, while others prefer rose gold and others like platinum. Find out what she genuinely wants before buying.

If you want to surprise her, do your best to find a ring that suits her style and personality.

Even though it’s not all about the ring, she is expected to wear it for many years to come, if not the rest of her life. Therefore, it’s important to put some thought into it.

The Location

The location you choose can play a huge role in your proposal. There are a couple of ways to determine what location is the right place to ask the question. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Time of Year

If you’re going to propose in the winter, consider romantic winter ideas. You might consider proposing during a holiday lights display, on a horse-drawn carriage or in front of the Christmas tree.

Proposing during summer? You might want to pop the question during a fireworks display or at the beach. A park or botanical garden might also be a pretty place to propose. Waterfalls can also make a beautiful backdrop for a proposal.

Fall weather can also make for some great proposal ideas. You might propose at a corn maze or during a romantic weekend getaway to see fall foliage.

  1. Meaningful Places

Consider taking your significant other to a place that holds a lot of sentimental value for both of you. You might go back to the place where you first met, the location of your first date, or the spot where you fell in love (or told each other you were in love) for the first time. The goal is to choose a spot that will give her all the feels even before you pop the question.

  1. At Home

If your significant other isn’t a fan of over-the-top or public proposals, you might consider proposing at home instead. There are a number of ways to create a romantic home proposal, such as creating a trail of rose petals, involving your pet or having a photographer or videographer there to capture the moment on camera.

  1. Surrounded by Loved Ones

Consider inviting your closest friends and family members to a party, whether you host it at home, a restaurant, a local park or any other location. This way, your loved ones will already be on standby to witness and celebrate your engagement. This can be perfect if you’re planning to propose on New Year’s Eve, Fourth of July or Thanksgiving.

The Words

You might be wondering what to say when you propose. It’s important to speak from your heart. Allow yourself to get emotional. You might consider starting the proposal by talking about the moment you first fell in love, or you might begin by talking about the future and how you envision it with them.

No matter what you choose to say, consider following the tradition of getting down on one knee when you ask your partner to marry you.

These are just some things to keep in mind when you propose. No matter what you choose to do, it’s important to propose in a way that feels authentic to your relationship. If you’re proposing to “the one,” they’ll just be happy you’re asking them to marry you in the first place!
